We all carry physical and emotional pain, from minor discomforts to overwhelming suffering. This dance installation gives form to pain through movement, exploring how we confront and live with it. Lili Stern embodies this struggle, interacting with inflatable “pain bags” in a visceral, evocative performance.

András Böröcz was born in Budapest, Hungary. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and was a member of Indigo, an underground artist group that was critical of the dictatorship. In the late 1970s, he began performing for internationally with Laszlo Revesz, his friend and former classmate. They made several performances together between 1977-1987. The participation at the Documenta 8 Kassel, Germany, 1987 marks the highlight of their collaborative work.
After moving to New York in 1986, Böröcz concentrated on sculpture, conceptually working with post-Pop ideas of discarded and common materials. The pencil became his object of choice, both for its democratic nature and its function as an artist’s tool.
Böröcz has exhibited and performed extensively in Europe and the United States, where he both affiliations with commercial galleries. He exhibited with Tibor DeNagy Gallery, Adam Baumgold Gallery and Pavel Zoubok Gallery. His works can be found in major public institution and private collections as well, such as the Jewish Museum in New York, The National Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts and Jewish Museum, Ampersand Foundation, Johannesburg, Boston Public Library Special Collections, and the City College Public Art in New York.
Böröcz currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and is the founding director of Alma on Dobbin, Inc., a trustee of the Ampersand Foundation Johannesburg/NYC and co-founder and director of 2b Gallery in Budapest, Hungary. His next retrospective exhibition will open on February 3, 2026 at the Hungarian National Gallery on the history of the Revesz&Böröcz Performances between 1977-1987. His current works focus on the 80th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust. At the end of 2025 he will exhibit these works at the Art Department Budapest.
