We all carry physical and emotional pain, from minor discomforts to overwhelming suffering. This dance installation gives form to pain through movement, exploring how we confront and live with it. Lili Stern embodies this struggle, interacting with inflatable “pain bags” in a visceral, evocative performance.

Join us on Saturday, September 6, 2025, for the world premiere of Enemies of the People,
a moving new monodrama presented by the Tulipán Foundation and Hungary Live Festival at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City.
Adapted from the powerful memoir by Kati Marton—a Peabody Award-winning author of ten
books, including Chancellor: The Remarkable Odyssey of Angela Merkel—the piece draws on a rich
tradition of personal and political storytelling. This one-woman show stars acclaimed Hungarian
actress Erika Marozsán, and was adapted especially for her by the award-winning Mohácsi brothers and directed by János Mohácsi.
Set in post-war Hungary, Enemies of the People follows Kati as she uncovers the untold story of her
parents, Ilona and Endre—journalists and survivors of two oppressive regimes. As a decade of
buried memories resurfaces, Kati’s reflections reveal a portrait of heartbreak, love, fear, and the quiet strength it took to endure and resist in a world turned upside down.
With just one voice, a mesmerizing music composed and performed by Marton Kovacs and Adam
Moser, and a powerful story, Enemies of the People captures the complexity of personal freedom
in a time of authoritarian rule—and reminds us not to wait for tragedy to recognize the people we
love. This intimate performance invites us to reflect on resilience, sacrifice, and the enduring strength found in human connection.
Presented in English, this performance is intended for mature audiences. The show begins at 6:30PM and runs approximately 60 minutes.

The monodrama will be directed by János Mohácsi, one of Hungary’s most acclaimed theater directors known for his socially engaged, emotionally layered productions. János has received numerous accolades, including the Jászai Mari Prize, a prestigious state honor awarded by the Hungarian government to theater artists in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the performing arts, and the Meritorious Artist of Hungary title. His work has been recognized with multiple Theatre Critics’ Awards, and his productions have been honored at the National Theatre Festival for their directing, dramaturgy, and performances.
Erika Marozsan is a graduate of the University of Theater and Film in Budapest and has led over 60 film productions across Hungary, Germany, and the United States. Her work includes collaborations with Academy Award winners István Szabó (Mephisto) and Robert Benton (Kramer vs. Kramer), as well as Oscar nominee Ildikó Enyedi (On Body and Soul). One of her most internationally recognized films, Gloomy Sunday, remains one of Germany’s most critically and commercially successful films. One Day Crossing, the film in which she starred was nominated for an Academy Award.On stage, Erika performed leading roles in classical and contemporary repertoire—from Shakespeare and Chekhov to Edward Bond and Molière. Worked with notable directors such as Tamás Ascher, a long-time collaborator of Cate Blanchett. In recognition of Ms. Marozsan’s artistic achievements, she was awarded the Knights of Cross of the Order of Merit, one of the most prestigious honors in the Republic of Hungary.
