György PETRI poetry night by András PÁL and Tamás ROZS
Join us for a special poetic evening, in Hungarian, but not just for Hungarians. An actor and a musician, an era, a mood…
Petri, who spoke in a unique voice in Hungarian poetry, identified himself with the Hungarian intellectuals lost to the years of socialism. He nourished himself with his alcohol-soaked lyricism and considered it cultishly his own.
Petri’s legacy returned a few years ago in the form of a highly successful performance of the Radnóti Miklós Theater, Budapest that won several awards. We felt it was our duty to bring this performance to our fellow citizens living abroad. And here we come!
“When I’m not writing poetry, I don’t exist,” wrote György Petri, just like an actor is not an actor if ‘s not acting, or like a cellist who, without his instrument, only twiddles his fingers in the corner. Let there be an evening where Petri is there, a live actor, and the cellist also joins in. Let there be an evening where we are the audience, sitting and watching from both sides of a table, and all this just so that, at the end of the evening we can say that Petri was with us.
The performance was created with the support of Ördögkatlan Festival and the Radnóti Theatre.
